Site update :: Late September 08

Hi there.

We're in the throes of one of the worst English summers in living memory; torrential rain, blustery winds and below average temperatures. Pretty atrocious really, but hey, life goes on.

I've updated the site with a microsite about my experiences at the Big Chill which hopefully will prove to be rather entertaining, plus a few other bits and pieces.

Site update :: November 08

Hello.

How's it going?

Good with you, I hope. I haven't updated the site for a while, due to changes in personal circumstances. I've been contracting in the centre of London three days a week, which is great news from a financial and confidence point of view; it sounds sad, and indicative of modern life, but I'm finding that getting some kind of regular employment doing something that I like and qualified in has boosted my general moral and self confidence.

Maybe this is down to having a little bit of expendable income after nearly nine years of trying to make the music work for me. I've finally realised that whilst I'm one of the fortunate ones inasmuch as yeah - I've made a little bit of dough out of my music and some of my stuff is out there on compilations etc, but as far as planning my retirement based on music earnings - well, forget it!

Having said all this, I'm finding that now I have more limited time to sit and compose in my studio, it's leading to me using that time more constructively. To be honest with you, I haven't really done bugger all musically for the last six months, aside from writing some acoustic piano based stuff. So hopefully, there should be some new material being completed in the very near future.

Site update :: January 08

Hi there.

The UK is in the grips of one of the coldest winters for quite a few years. Even me, who loves the cold, fresh weather is feeling it! We saw a wee bit of snow near London today (10th Jan) - just a light dusting but it's rare these days to see any whiteness.

Anyway, enough about the bloody weather; I've been doing some spring cleaning here at alucidnation HQ, tidying up a few loose ends and spending a bit of time sorting things out behind the scenes.

New Stock in the lucid shop

Yes, as it says above, I've re-stocked the shop here with pretty much everything that I've been working on since 2005, bar the tracks that will appear on the new alucidnation LP, coming out this Spring on Big Chill - see below. There are three new digital releases - 'Trails', 'A Sedentary State' and a remix album, 'Reinterpretation'. There's a total of around 30 new tracks up for sale at the bargain price of 75 UK pence, so if you like what you hear, then support a struggling artist!

I'm also weighing up the logistics of offering each digital album as a limited edition 'proper' audio CD releases; more on that soon.

alucidnation : 'Get Lost' ...

Mid 08:
I'll have some definite release dates for the new alucidnation long player that I'll be able to let you have during August. Needless to say, it's sounding very nice and I'm sure that you'll like it. More news in the next couple of weeks.

January 09:
There's been a few things happening here. I've finally signed the contracts for the new LP on Big Chill. After two years of stop start, due to my headspace primarily, it's coming out in the Spring thru Europe on the Big Chill Label via PIAS and is also being released down under by One World... Great news!

I really believe that part of the reason I haven't been as prolific of late is due to this album not having been released in late 2006, when it was ready, albeit in a different incarnation. The tracklisting has been changed at various stages since, right up to literally the last minute...

Sorry, due to me being away, this date has now been postponed until mid-October. More details soon.

Sunday 5th October 2008
MixedBag at Start the Bus, Bristol.

Nice little gig over in Bristol alongside Glyn Bush, this one. I'll be playing some tunes from my new album and, well, just making it up as I go along, really. No change there. Ed'll be on the visuals too.
Many thanks to Alex Cooper for making this happen.

alucidnation residency at the Big Chill Bar
TBC

After over four years as a monthly night at the bar in Shoreditch, my night will be more of an occasional affair, maybe a bi-monthly... More news on this soon.

Sundae at the Big Chill Bar
Sunday 18th January 09, 12.30-14.00

My monthly residency has changed in the respect that whilst I'm still playing at the Big Chill Bar on a monthly basis, I'll alternate between Sundays and Wednesdays if you catch my drift. Suits me fine.

The first set on a Sunday at the Bar is always a pleasureable experience... people just lounging around chilling out whilst maybe enjoying a roast dinner and an early pint.. come and check it out.

Wednesday at the Big Chill Bar
Wednesday 18th February 09 19.00-midnight

The first Wednesday night Lucid of 2009... Lucid resident Stuart Nisbet joins me on the decks.

alucidnation presents the weekly show 'Eclectronica' on Chill DAB / Online

'Eclectronica' airs Sunday nights on Chill DAB.

Judging by the amount of mail I receive and the audience figures, Eclectronica appears to be a bit of success story! Not really a surprise - my weekly radio show takes in all kinds of musical genres, and it's all blended beautifully for a sublime listening experience.

If you haven't tuned into a show yet, you can listen back to archived shows up to 14 days later by using my listen again facility. The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that the top menu now incorporates a broadcast section...

The show airs every Sunday night at 10pm GMT, and is repeated every Saturday night at 10pm GMT.

So tune in, turn on, but don't drop off...

Cafe Chillout

I'm in good company, the likes of Blue States, Goloko, Chris Coco's new band City Reverb and Fragile State also feature on this comp. More details here.

On a Dub Mission Vol 2

Dubmission Records are releasing the second in their series 'On a Dubmission'. I'm pleased that they've chosen one of my more dubbed out efforts for this collection - 'Fog In Dub'.

Remix News

15 Below Remixes
The alucidnation track 'Fifteen Below' has been remixed by Jay LeBlone [ Aqua Bassino], Dessous, Vincenzo [Poker Flat] and Escape Arts, alongside the original ambient mix plus a deep-house remix by me.

James Healey of theagriculture records out of New York will be releasing it shortly on his new label Open Air Music.

Digitonal Remix
Looks like I'll be doing a remix for fellow downtempo brother Andy Dobson's Digitonal project. More info when I have it.
