Site update :: March 4th 2008

Hi there ..

Been a bit slack on updating the website lately. Mind you, if I'm honest not too much has been going on. It's funny isn't it, the less one has to do, the more stressed one gets with the smallest of jobs. And the opposite is true; the old adage "if you want a job doing well and fast, ask a busy person" certainly rings true.

Having been working back in town again for a few weeks on a contract basis has made me realise that I do actually enjoy the routine of regular work, it adds conformity and a timetable to your everyday life.

A number of factors have contributed to the way I'm feeling about my music at the moment. After viewing my music as 'a career' [of sorts] for many years, it's with a certain retiscence and sadness that I realise that I have to view it as more of a hobby.

Some of you may have heard that Pete Lawrence has left the Big Chill, my home since 2000. With Pete's departure comes uncertainty; he was one of the main reasons I was there to be honest. I won't say that I don't have a recording deal with the Big Chill, but the way the whole music industry is evolving at present dictates how musicians like myself a) get the product out there and b) earn money from their art.

Suffice to say it's tough. I guess that I'm one of the fortunate few in the respect that I have a small yet perfectly-formed following, which I'm very grateful for.

Which leads me onto the subject of future physical releases. I've been promising on my blog that the follow-up album to 'Induction' would make an appearance for the last 12 months or so, to little avail. It's frustrating for me, as the pre-master for the LP has been sitting on my hard drive gathering virtual dust. I'm unsure at present as to how I'm going to release this; it may well be that it'll come out in some shape or form on the new Big Chill Recordings label, or it might appear on another label entirely. Or I could release it digitally here on my own site and offer the option of producing physical product in house from my studio here.

Anyway, thanks for listening. Your feedback will influence any decisions I make, so your feedback would be appreciated. Drop me a line at bruce at alucidnation dot co dot uk.

With no apparant date set for a new album release, I've been concentrating on other bits and pieces.

alucidnation presents 'Eclectronica' on Chill DAB / Online

I'm happy to say that after some negotiations, I have a weekly show starting on Chill Radio.

The show is called 'alucidnation presents Eclectronica' and will air every Sunday night, 2200-0000 GMT. The show will be seamless mixes blended from my music library, and will take in all manner of styles, mainly concentrating on the electro-acoustic and downtempo styles that I like to Chill to at home. Each broadcast will be accompanied by a downloadable tracklist and podcast with a commentary from me so that if you really like a track, you'll know what it is and where you can get hold of it. Good idea, eh?

The first show will be broadcast on Sunday the 23rd March at 10pm GMT.

There are numerous ways to check the show out - live on Chill DAB [depending on where you live, DAB transmitters are still being erected], live online at the Chill website or on Sky Channel 0174 /Cable. And if you miss a show, you can catch it at the listen again facility on the Chill website, or here on the alucidnation website.

So tune in, turn on, but don't drop off...

Remix News

My remix for Fragile State has ended up being given very favourable reviews. The 'Remixes/Classics' Fragile State three CD set released on i-label won a 'best LP' i-tunes award, and I was pleased to see that my 'downtempo' remix seems to be the most popular download on there too. It was also featured on Chill DAB as a tune of the week and was narrowly pipped at the post from becoming Pathaan's Sunset track by Flipside out of Copenhagen. They've obviously got more friends than me!

I finished a remix for Minuit too, very spacey, very sublime. More on that when it gets a release, I guess.

And one of my own tracks is being remixed at the moment by Aqua Bassino and Dessous. It's called '15 Below', and theagriculture records out of New York will be releasing it I think. More information on this soon.

Compilation Appearances

Tom Middleton's Crazy Covers II came out late last year on Universal; my version of the Korgi's evergreen classic 'Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime' made the cut. It sits quite happily amongst a whole host of carefully chosen covers from a whole host of famous and not so famous names.

And Tom [top man that he is] has also included an Artec track (9 Times the Speed of Sound) and an alucidnation track (Pedal Steal) on his new compilation for Renaissance. It's called '3D' and is a three-disc sonic exploration into club, dub and home listening. A quality selection of tracks, well worth investigation.

Lars Sandberg, aka Funk D'Void has also licensed another Artec track for his complilation for Soma out of Glasgow. A great label, and a fantastic compilation to boot.
