Site update :: April 10th 2008

Hi there ..

Thought that I'd kick off with a more 'upbeat' introduction after the last blog which was a bit depressing in tone to say the least.

Firstly, can I just say 'thanks' to all of you that wrote to me with your views on where I should release the album. After sifting through the mail, the resounding opinion seems to be that I should release the physical product [packaged CDs with accompanying artwork] here, on my own label.

Once I've made a 'final' desicion on all this I will be sending out a mailer letting you know where you can get hold of the new LP.

Site update :: July 1st 2008

Thanks for dropping by.

Finally got around to updating the site. Nina and I have been away in Greece for a week or two, hence I haven't been on top of things.

I've been confirmed for a couple of festival appearances, and there's some new compilation appearances. see below for more information.

As far as the new album is concerned, Big Chill Recordings are releasing a double set in the UK later this year. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but due to cash constraints this end, the actual date of release is dependent on me funding manufacture costings. Unfortunately the days of your record label lavishing thousands of pounds on manufacture, mastering and artiste advances are long gone!

Got to say that the double album is sounding very nice. CD one is representative of my more ambient/chilled canon of work, whilst the second disc is more uptempo; dubby, chunky beat-driven alucidnation.

All being well, the new album will be released in Japanese and Australian territories later in 2008.

LUCID DJ

This month's guest is LUCID resident Stuart Nisbet. DJing with my oldest mate is always a pleasure which is why I keep having him back to help out with deck duties.

My night specialises in the unexpected - each month I share the decks with a guest on a back 2 back basis, so as to keep each DJ 'on their toes'; sometimes this works, other times it doesn't!

THE BIG CHILL GALA 2008
Eastnor Castle Deer Park, Eastnor, UK

I really wasn't expecting to be performing at this years Big Chill Festival. After the departure of Pete Lawrence as festival director and creative controller, a lot of acts that have traditionally been an integral part of the festival for years were suddenly culled.

It's fair enough I guess. So I was surprised when I received the call to confirm a slot this year. It's good news - after all, I've got the new LPs to promote and it would seem a little strange not to be going along to a festival that's been a big part of my life since it started 14 years ago!

With the glorious Sanctuary Stage now having bitten the dust due to Council regulations, the more chilled and ambient end of the spectrum seems to have been a little neglected in the lineup this year, the likes of the Mighty Boosh getting more of a look in... It'll be interesting to see the social dynamic this year; whether it's changed or not. I'll have a great time as per usual though.

Performance times :
LIVE/DJ
Saturday 2nd August, 12.30-2.45pm Sauza Stage

AMBIENT DJ SET
Sunday 3rd August, 03.00-04.00am Body & Soul Arena

alucidnation presents the weekly show 'Eclectronica' on Chill DAB / Online

The first 'Eclectronica' aired last Sunday on Chill DAB.

I hope that those of you that either tuned in to hear it, or just happened to catch it enjoyed it. Listening back to it here at the archive [the eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that the top menu now incorporates a broadcast section] it was a great start to the series. One of my best mixes, although I say it myself...

The show airs every Sunday night at 10pm GMT, and is repeated every Saturday night at 10pm GMT.

So tune in, turn on, but don't drop off...

Compilation Appearances

See the discography section for news on recent compilation appearances.

Tom Middleton has included one alucidnation track and one Artec track on a new compilation for Renaissance. It's called '3D' and is a three-disc sonic exploration into club, dub and home listening. A quality selection of tracks, well worth investigation.

Lars Sandberg, aka Funk D'Void has also licensed another Artec track for his complilation for Soma out of Glasgow. A great label, and a fantastic compilation to boot.

Ben Mynott has included a track off the forthcoming 'Get Lost' LP, 'Meantime' on i-label's 'Chillout Lounge 2'. Ben's a tastemaker and DJ of some repute and was one half of the commercial and critically acclaimed Fragile State project. I'm chuffed that he's included my take on electronic shoegazer onto his compilation.

Leigh Wood has included 'Widescreen View', another track off the new alucidnation LP on his new compilation that will be released shortly down under. It's called 'Eco-Zen 2' and I'll post up further details once I have them.

And Domenico Carluccio, he of P Dot 5 fame is releasing a rather nice compilation with alucidnation standout 'Beautiful House' included. It's coming out on 4 Records in the very near future. More soon.

Remix News

The alucidnation track 'Fifteen Below' has been remixed by Jay LeBlonde [ Aqua Bassino], Dessous, Vincenzo [Poker Flat] and Escape Arts, alongside the original ambient mix plus a deep-house remix by me. James Healey of theagriculture records out of New York will be releasing it shortly.

I've finished my remix for Declan 'Al-Pha-X' Flynn. It's called 'Chilled Goodbyes' and will be released in some shape or form in the coming months. It's a beautiful remix, very ambient and meditative.
