ARCHIVE : September / October 2007

The site is now completely live and pretty much updated as far as I'm aware..

I've spent a reasonable amount of time updating the look and feel of the alucidnation site, adding a new potted history (which is quite entertaining!) in the profile section, new downloads and some new mixes too.

I've also invested a fair amount of time re-stocking the shelves at The Shop, although I'm still working through this lengthy (but nonetheless enjoyable) task; didn't realise just how much stuff I'd got in my back catalogue! Bear with me while I finish the job..

LUCID

Another LUCID night at the Big Chill bar in oh-so-fashionable Shoreditch, East London. Come along and be aurally entertained with a fantastic mash-up of all kinds of stuff. Over the past year or so, I've started sharing this night with a range of like-minded musicians and DJs, doing interesting back-2-back sets, some of which work well, others not so!

This month's guest is one of my old friends, Marcus Bailey. He and I have been firm friends since the nineties and even put on some great parties together down at his old stomping ground in the Sussex countryside a few years back.

Marcus played one of the best DJ sets I've witnessed with the visual aid of Hexstatic too, so I'm looking forward to spinning some records with him, back2backstylee!

FRAGILE STATE REMIX ALBUM LAUNCH

Ben Mynott and Neil Cowley produced two classic downtempo jazz-tinged albums earlier this decade in the shape of 'The Facts and the Dreams' and 'Voices from the Dustbowl'. Then their record label, Bar de Lune went bust, taking their back catalogue with it. Not good news.

However, they've managed to get their own songs back and are releasing an album of remixes, one of which is by me.

Come along to this, the launch night at the Big Chill House in Kings X, where you can chill to DJ sets by Mister Tom, Ben Mynott, Pete Lawrence and my good self.

1pm : alucidnation live at the Daylight Festival

Again, thanks to the lovely Anne Garner for inviting me to do another special one-off gig at the Union Chapel, Islingston. Let's hope that this one will be attended by a few more people than last time, when I played to about 10 people in all, and that included me and the soundman!

This time, however, I'm playing on a Saturday lunchtime, so it should attract more people, rather than playing a weekday when it's always bound to be pretty quiet.

There's more information here, and you can also download a PDF document detailing the event if interested...

LUCID

I'm pleased to announce that this month's guest is none other than the inimitable Jake Bickerton. You've probably put two and two together and realised that Jake is somehow related to me, what with us sharing the same surname, which let's face it isn't that common.

And you'd be right. Jake is indeed related to me; he's one of my first cousins, and is Patrick Bickerton's brother. He also has exceptional taste in music, is a good guitarist (witness those facial contortions when he's playing a solo electric part!) and occasionally collaborates with me as well as composing his own music when he's the time. He's a busy lad.

So as is the tradition these days at Lucid, it's a back2back mashup of startlingly good records, assembled in such a way that may or may not work.

Come along and make your own decision.

New Remixes

I've been asked to do a couple of remixes; one for Fragile State, who've finally managed to rescue their back catalogue after their record label collapsed and took their work with them... It seems that Neil and Ben are collating a selection of remixes, and I'm chuffed that they've asked me to do one.

I'm going to remix 'Undercurrent' that's taken from 'The Facts and the Dreams'. It's a lovely track and I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into it!

Also doing another remix for a band called Minuit, a New Zealand based outfit with a big rep down under and part of the Spacific crew. The track I'm remixing is called 'The Sum of Us' and again, looking forward to doing this one too.

I do like a good remix!
