Site update :: Decembrrr 2007

Hello and welcome to the alucidnation webspace ..

Mighty me; it's chilly here in the UK at the moment. We've had some lovely crisp wintery days where the arc of the sun means that it barely makes an appearance to warm the hard ground. I personally love this time of the year, crisp and cold; very photogenic!

Anyway, been doing a few bits and pieces of late, more below.

Sunday 14th October 2007
Big Chill Sundae Session
6.15pm-8.20pm
I lurrve playing the bar on a Sunday evening; nice crowd, bit of grub, play as far across the board as you like...

luverly!

Thursday 1st Novem ber 2007
DJ Set with Alpha-X at Kings Road Habitat Store

Did one of these Habitat gigs earlier this year and was surprised at the reaction from punters; people did seem to genuinly appreciate the music I was playing through the shop PA!

This is another one, this time playing alongside Declan at the Kings Road store... come along and have a listen and a browse...

Christmas Eve 2007
Big Chill Sundae.

I'm spinning at 4.20pm. Also included are Pete Lawrence, Laura B & Matt, and other people.

Wednesday 16th January 2008
LUCID

The first Lucid of 2008! I'm joined this month by Declan Flynn, also known as Al-Pha-X, who's a very decent bloke who happens to make lovely music too.

Declan and I bonded musically standing in Habitat on the Kings Road where we happened to be playing records believe it or not. He's a producer of some note, and his music can be heard on many compilations over the world.

Should be interesting to do a back2back with him!

Wednesday 20th February 2008
LUCID

I'm pleased that John Heery has agreed to come along and spin some tunes at the February Lucid. Not only is John a top lad, but he also composes some sublime stuff under the moniker of Input Junkie.

Plus it'll be good to see him on the right side of the DJ booth; John & Donna have been two of the most regular faces at Lucid over the past couple of years...

New Remixes

Just completed a remix for a band called Minuit, a New Zealand based outfit with a big rep down under and part of the Spacific crew. The track I remixed is called 'The Sum of Us', the original being a slice of almost angsty electronica. I've taken the vocal and chilled the whole track out, I'm pleased with the results...

I'm just about to embark on another remix for Al-Pha-X, who is a producer and arranger of note called Declan Flynn. He's also a lovely bloke, check out his web presence here. More on this soon.

Neil Cowley and Ben Mynott have just released a selection of remixes, and I'm chuffed that they've included both of the ones I did on the LP.

The first one I did (the Uptempo version) was OK, but I wasn't happy with it really, so I went back into my studio the following morning and knocked up the downtempo remix, which was recorded pretty much live with hardly any overdubbing over it. That's the one I like. Other contributors include Ralph Myerz, Digitonal and 4 Hero. It's out now on the i-label.

I do like a good remix!

New works

The Pool by night out in Portugal

Just spent a couple of weeks out in Portugal, and this time, I made sure I took the studio with me, rather than reading a whole load of books. Having said that, I did read Bez's autobiography, 'Freaky Dancin', which I can heartily recommend to everyone! Laugh out loud kinda stuff; nice one Bez!

Anyway, as I say, I took my laptop out there and a keyboard, and composed a couple of new tracks which I'm pretty chuffed with, one which reminds me of Yam Yam; lots of guitars, but a chunky, funky groove, and the other, influenced by the mighty Trentemoller's production, a storming 120BPM tech-dub track, which is still work in progress.

Both of these tracks will be available in the shop in due course.

UPDATE

I've got around to completing the track that I started working on whilst holidaying in Portugal in September. It's a chuggy piece with guitars on it called 'Protocol', and I'm pleased with the finished mix. Once I finish the 'flip side' (a very different deep-tech stomper) this EP will go up on sale in the shop if you're interested.

New album UPDATE

The 2nd LP cover

The new alucidnation album, titled 'Get Lost' will be released at some point during 2008. I'm sorry that I can't be more specific, but hopefully it'll be out by the start of the Summer. It's now been ready to go for a while, and consequently I hadn't listened to it for a few months. So it was interesting to sit back and spend an hour chilling out to it.

I'm pleased to say that it was an hour well spent. Mind you, I'm hardly going to say it was a waste of time!

The Green Thing

The Green Thing podcast is now completed and up online at the GreenThing website. Why don't you visit it yourself and see if it encourages you to walk to work? It certainly inspired me to do so; although my work to work is approximately twenty feet.

Here's the finalised tracklisting:

Animat : Hummingbird Highway
Input Junkie : Amble
Howie B : Walk About
Cantoma : Maja
Five Minute Pop Promo : Steve Hawkins
Tuggy : Drum mix
Pitch Black : Lost in Translation (International Observer meets Horace)
