AGK + alucidnation play Nambucca
12 November 2004.

I was excited by the prospect of doing a show alongside AGK (my friends Paul, Ben and Kev) at this venue on the Holloway Road in London. They're a great band and I hadn't heard them play a live gig until this night.

However, I hadn't ever visited the 'venue', so when I turned up, I was dismayed to find out that there wasn't a rider as such - no drink, no food, no fuck all actually. We were treated exceptionally badly by the girl who was co-ordinating the night; plus we were informed upon our arrival that there was another band was sharing the billing...

Pete Lawrence came along to DJ on the night - as usual he played some lovely music, and I was mightily impressed by AGK's performance.

When my turn came to get up on the low stage, I didn't feel right about it... it was noisy and smoky, the sound was shit and I'd already madde my mind up that I wasn't about to enjoy what I was doing. And I was right.

The band who were playing last (that we didn't even know were playing) started hassling me about three-quarters of the way through my set to finish!! I couldn't quite believe it. However, my voice was starting to crack up due to the smoky atmosphere and I really wasn't into the whole thing.

I packed away my gear and made a silent resolution to a) never play a pub gig again and b) be more selective about where and when I play in the future.

The upside to the ngiht was that it was great to see some of the people who'd turned up to see what was going on - especially the boys from Photonic, who just happened to be in the capital that weekend.

You can't win 'em all, I guess. Just take my advice - don't bother going along to Nambucca
