ALUCIDNATION'S LESSONS IN LOVE.
PART ONE. IF YOU FANCY 'EM, TELL 'EM

It's a situation that mankind the world over can associate with. You spot that special someone down the boozer, at the bookies or even at that local Swedish Massage Parlour that you keep going to even though you know you shouldn't, yet you can never get it together to go over and speak to the object of your desire. A spineless chicken, you often wonder what might have been…paradise lost??

"Those lyrics are so true : '…if you don't express your feelings, how is anyone supposed to know?'" Bruce Bickerton (alucidnation) is a man of few words, and those he does use are chosen carefully. However, when it comes to discussing the inspiration behind his track 'I'm Not Bad', a gently affecting piece of beautiful, melodic electronica detailing unrequited love - he suddenly becomes very animated.

"It's about a mate of mine who's unlucky in love, I guess", he explains. "One night he was telling me about this girl he fancied but didn't have the balls to tell her. So 'I'm Not Bad' was a few words of wisdom for him, really." So did this mate heed your wise words? "No; he never spoke to her and she never found out!"

Coming on like a modern day take on Burt Bacharach's 'This Guy's in Love With You' for the post-acid house generation, it alone would be worthy of gushing praise. But 'EP:01', the 12" from which it's culled, is divine from start to end. Five tracks of twinkling, polar cool electronic ambience punctuated with lush detroitesque interludes, it's a welcome respite from the harsh punishment offered by certain electroheads.

"The problem with a lot of modern electronic music is that it's soulless and too mechanical", he refreshingly admits. "I like to keep that human feel - warts and all"

Alucidnation. A lucid fellow.
